Goiania is a Brazilian city , capital of Goias state. It’s located 209 km from Brasilia , the national capital,
therefore, the nearest state capital the federal capital. With an area of approximately 739 km2 , it
has a continuous geography, with few hills and lowlands, with flat lands in most of its territory ,
especially the Meia Ponte River , in addition to Botafogo and Capim Puba streams.
Before the arrival of Europeans to the Americas , the central portion of Brazil was occupied by
indigenous, as acroás, the xacriabás , the Xavante , the Kayapó , the Javaés , among others.
The colonization of Goiania originated started 1735 , with the first proposals for moving the capital of
the captaincy of Goias .
The municipality of Goiânia is bordered on the north by the municipalities of Goianira , Nerópolis and
Goianápolis ; south , by the Aparecida de Goiânia ; east , by the Senador Canedo and Bela Vista de Goiás ;
and west , by the Goianira and Trinidad . Situated in an almost flat topography of the region , the
territory emerges as an access step to the higher lands of central Brazil .
The prevailing weather in Goiania is humid tropical. The average annual temperature is 23 ° C. The rains
are concentrated in the summer months and vary between 1,500 and 2,000 mm annually. The rainy season
extends from October to April , while the dry season runs from May to September. The lowest
temperatures are usually recorded between May and August . Spring is regularly the hottest season of
the year.
Because it is the state capital , to be part of the economic axis Goiânia- Anápolis -Brasília and be located
in the center of one of the largest agro-pastoral area of the world Goiania it became the seat of a
very dynamic economy. The economic sectors in which most stands out are: retail trade , the food
industry and clothing, and services .
Goiania has totally six beaches on its coastline , which has 18 km long and is completely surrounded by
the Atlantic Ocean. The Historic Centre of Goiana is considered a National Historic Landmark since the
year 1938.6 The city has eight monumental secular churches in the center, not counting the listed
buildings and the architecture in which they were built . The Church of St. Lawrence of Tejucupapo , one
of the most important churches in the city of Goiás , was built in the mid-sixteenth century and is
considered one of the oldest churches in the state of Pernambuco.
