Tabatinga is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Amazonas. Its population, according to estimates
by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in 2014 was 59,684 inhabitants, the most
populous city of its micro and mesoregion and the most populous in the Amazonas state.
It is located in the middle of the largest rainforest in the world, the Amazon jungle on the left bank of
the Solimões River bordering Colombia in the triple border between Brazil, Colombia and Peru, and
was stablished in 1983. It features a conurbation with the Colombian city of Leticia. The word
Tabatinga is of indigenous origin, coming from the Tupi that means white clay or whitish clay
